Our project / Your project

Wild Tech is a platform for gathering and sharing initiatives and innovations in the domain of technology and of practical knowledge. It aims to elicit feedback from researchers, activists or any social and economic actor; it wishes to inspire initiatives and new ideas so that alternative technologies may find new audiences and all sorts of relays. We are interested by any idea, discovery or initiative which goes beyond the classical divide between low-tech and high-tech and may contribute to the power of making by promoting unexpected directions in practical innovation and technology. We are also looking for the ones which go beyond promoting, selling and creating new needs, enabling us to find and to share in a free manner all sorts of unexpected solutions to practical and not so practical concerns.

Our ambition is to create an alternative platform, dedicated to creativity and to innovation. Whether you are a creator, a simple onlooker, a dedicated observer , a DIYer, a maker, an experimenter, an hobbyist, a free researcher, a scholar, a student, or anyone. If you have observed or discovered any sort of alternative innovation which may be practical, useful, cheap , weird, or simply interesting, don’t hesitate to share them with us and with everyone at Wild tech.

Notre projet / votre projet

We define ‘Wild Tech’ as a will to discover and rediscover, invent and reinvent new ways of making things, whenever one wishes to be creative or needs to be creative, because (s)he cannot afford not to be. We prefer innovations to be cheap, easy to make, and sustainable; and we appreciate when they offer us new ways of understanding and interacting creatively with the world around us. Frugality, simplicity and robustness, are characteristics we are aiming for, in order to share ways of doing things which enable us to maintain low manufacturing and maintenance costs; also to approach technology and the power of making in a way accessible to the greatest number. But we remain open to any sort of innovation and any form of creativity in design and technology, as long as they correspond to the spirit of ‘wild tech’.

The team

ARTMAP is a platform that brings together students and researchers coming from various backgrounds (anthropology, history of science, technology arts, robotics), working both in Europe and in India, Southeast Asia and Japan. Initially designed by anthropologists (Denis Vidal, IRD, and Emmanuel Grimaud, CNRS), all are invited to contribute (artists, activists, researchers, etc.). Its ambition is to propose new ways of looking at technology from an anthropological perspective, on the basis of various researches, initiatives, exhibitions, experiments and practices, at the intersection of high-tech and low–tech

The ARTMAP has already conducted many joint research and fieldwork projects; it is also organising regularly seminars and research workshops.
